The Mukwenda, Saalongo Abubaker Magala has cautioned BLB on the ongoing fraudulent transactions on Kabaka’s land in Ssingo County despite it having been returned to the Kabaka of Buganda by the central Government. ‘Despite the fact that this land was returned to the Kabaka of Buganda by the central Government, some district land boards are still issuing out leases to tenants, an act that needs urgent attention’, he said. This was while he was launching the three day retreat at Enro Hotel in Mityana.
Mukwenda promised to work closely with Buganda Land Board to ensure that such transactions are fully cabbed as BLB is the Company that is fully mandated by His Majesty the Kabaka to manage the land. He added that he and the Kabaka’s chiefs are working towards developing the land to ensure that it is put to optimum utilization with projects like commercial farming among others which they hope will also benefit the Kabaka’s subjects in the long run.
The retreat held on 11th-13th January 15, 2016 was organized by BLB to review performance of the previous six months and make ways on how to improve service delivery and general performance conducted under the theme ‘Modernizing BLB and Improving efficiency. The entire team included Departmental Heads, Regional Coordinators, Branch and Unit Managers led by the Managing Director Mr. Kyewalabye –Male D.
Mr. Mujabi Martin Kuteesa (head finance & administration), Mrs. Miiro Margaret (Head Corporate Affairs) and other managers in the retreat.
At the retreat, a remarkable success was noted having been achieved in the past six months including high level of securing and regularizing of tenancy on Kabaka’s land, Financial institutions coming on board to assist interested tenants with limited capacity to acquire leases rising to eight, advanced technology survey machine (RTK) and more surveyors, more branches opening up and improved transport vehicles among others.
A number of discussions took place that will see improved efficiency and innovations. These include the security palm vein identification system to reduce fraudulent transactions on land, reduced delays in the leasing processes among other efforts to see modernization in the next five years, especially now that Buganda Land Board operates as a registered company under the sole proprietorship of His Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda. The different branches are to be fully operational so as to move services closer to the people for efficient service delivery.
