Buganda Land Board is starting off with its massive registration and survey exercise on 1st to 30th June 2016.The one month campaign is a response to the bibanja holders that missed out in the previous exercise and all concerned are advised to utilize this opportunity while it lasts.
The announcement was made by the Ag. Managing Director, Mr. Kizito Bashir at a press conference held at the head Office on Masengere building. ’’ Buganda Land Board is re-embarking on a month Campaign as response to subsequent requests by Kabaka’s subjects with unregistered bibanja to be given another opportunity to register and survey their bibanja at subsidized prices ’’he said.Unlike last year, the campaign is set to last for a month although the fees payable are to remain the same as was last year in all the respective Buganda counties.
‘’There has been various requests from unregistered bibanja owners who for various reasons including, being away on journeys at the time of the exercise, inefficient funds and limited time for preparation among others.’’ He added. That some of these requests have been channelled through respective Members of Parliament and other local leaders in relation to their different localities. This is basically why the Board has decided to repeat the exercise.
On registration of a kibanja, a certificate of ownership is given to the kibanja owner, a file is opened and the client’s details are entered into the Buganda Land Board data base for future reference.
Since 1993, Buganda Land Board has had a mission of facilitating communities with security of tenure for sustainable land use and development, hence has been securing tenancy for bibanja holders through registration, survey and title processing.
Surveyed plots have related benefits among which is prevention of encroachment and associated negative effects, and avoidance of land fraudulent transactions.
Mr. Kizito emphasized that the campaign targets unregistered bibanja owners on Kabaka’s land and pointed out that for Kyaddondo and Busiro ,fees payable is 600,000/= for massive survey while for other areas is 100,000/-for registration. That all fees must be paid only on to Bank of Africa A/C. NO.01181350009, and that no payment should be done to any individuals including staff and Kabaka’s chiefs.
