Buganda Land Board is to sensitize local leaders and residents on Ssentema and Mayemebe gambogo proposed sites for the BLB affordable housing projects. All developments on the site are to stop following it’s unveiling during the recent Buganda Investment forum at Serena Hotel in Kampala. This decision comes after the site visit and inspection by the Buganda Land Board technical team led by the Manager Director, Kyewalabye Male together with the Ssebwana, the county chief on 28th December 2016 last evening.
“Local leaders and residents are to be sensitized on the purpose of the upcoming projects so that they understand and appreciate its true intensions before commencement. Those who would wish to vacate the areas will be compensated while others will be relocated in more appropriate locations”. Mr. Male said.
According to MS Nanvuma Rehema, Mayembe ga Mbogo and Ssentema affordable housing projects are aimed at providing accommodation at affordable rates, promoting of well-planned settlements and reducing slums among others. An estimated total of over 1180 Affordable houses including schools, hospitals and recreation centres among others are expected to be constructed on the 240 acreage land in Ssentema and 141 of Mayembegambogo respectively.
The project is one of BLB’s development plans to improve on people’s livelihoods on Kabaka’s land and is another development on Kabaka’s land after Guoji’s Mirembe Villas in Kigo Lunya with similar planned housing projects for accommodation and improved settlement. Over 5000 people are likely to benefit from the new low cost housing projects.
