Buganda Land Board Embarks on Busuulu collection

Buganda Land Board has embarked on Busuulu collection since 1st/02/2017 an exercise that covers all Buganda counties under the Board’s jurisdiction as assessment by the Minister for lands, Housing and Urban Development and also by District Land Boards.

In a meeting held recently with the Buganda County Chiefs at Jevine Hotel in Lubaga , the Buganda Land Board Managing Director, Mr. Kyewalabye Male revealed that all preparations for Busuulu collection  including stakeholders sensitizations were already done and that tha exercise was due to start. He however said that sensitization meetings with bibanja owners on that subject will still go on.

According to the statutory instrument No. 55 of 2011 made under section 31 and 93 of the land act ,tenants must pay annual nominal ground rent to the landlord as assessed by District land boards approved by the Minister of lands ,housing and Urban Development .

Five Districts including Masaka, Luwero, Nakaske, Rakai and Ssembabule   made their assessments and were approved by the lands Minister as follows;

Under this arrangement, all bibanja holders on Kabaka’s land are eligible to pay busuulu as stipulated in the tables above. However all tenants with lease titles on Kabaka’s land will continue paying the annual ground rent as stipulated in their in their lease agreements.

There are various benefits associated with Busuulu payment including creating and maintaining of an opportunity for a good relationship between the landlord and the tenants, confidence for kibanja owner that he is known by the land lord, and the land lord can be able to plan for the land and people thereon among others.  

Modes of payments for busuulu  is set to include the Stanbic bank A/C Number 9030005607948, Mobile money, Pebbu and pay way outlets.
